The Faversham Society broadly welcomes these proposals which, happily, uses one of the traditional methods of extending an old building.  At the same time it rationalises and simplifies the somewhat confused layout of several mid and late 20th century alterations at the rear of premises.  We do however have one or two detailed comments:

  1. The proportions of the new windows (as shown on the proposed elevations) are rather square, inappropriate and awkward-looking.  New window openings, divisions, casements and glass panes on this Listed building should generally be taller than they are wide – as they are elsewhere on the building.  If consents are granted, would ask that this matter be conditioned.
  1. Given the prominence of the elevations that are being altered and that the building is both Listed and in the Conservation Area we ask that the use of upvc is expressly forbidden.  For the same reasons we hope that all new brickwork, pebbledash, roof tiling and rainwater goods will be conditioned in the usual way.
  1. We ask that the detailed design of all new joinery (whether external or internal) and its mouldings be conditioned in the normal way.
